A Pause From The Regular Programming For A Commercial

Prod_washes This is not a paid post. This is a shout out for a product that I think is the best of its kind and I wanted to share with all of you.

The Gotham Gal found this product a few years back and we've been using it in our home for about five years now. It's called "In The Raw Body Wash". I am a fan of grapefruit/tangerine, but it comes in about a dozen frangrances.

Here's why I like it so much; great packaging, the pump works flawlessly, it's plastic not glass, its the right consistency, it washes off well, it's thick enough that I shave with it, and every one of the various frangrances is a winner. And the products are organic and handmade.

You can buy it online on their website. If you try it out, come back here and let us know what you think.

The ad in the RSS’ed out version of this post goes to a competitor of the product you’re endorsing, FYI. http://twitpic.com/8k9e7

      Lovely

Sounds like a great product … but not sure why you say it’s good because “it’s plastic not glass”: Totally unrecyclable and much more (environmentally) costly than glass.

    1. fredwilson

Yeah but glass isn’t great in the shower because of breakage

      1. Richard

        Fair enough… 🙂

plastic is eminently recyclable (i personally ran a business that recycled plastics) and it is also completely biodegradable. if it is more “environmentally costly” (?) it is because plastic is a petroleum byproduct.though i have never seen a study comparing the manufacturing and delivery and reclaiming costs of plastic vs glass, i highly recommend this: http://bit.ly/16XeaT

I had to laugh when I saw this post. I have a note to blog about body wash for two months now, and never got around to it. Now I can leave this comment, and cross it off my list. :-)It took me decades to discover the joy of body wash and a loofah (now I know what I was missing). For a couple of years, I was stuck on products from Bath and Bodyworks, lovely stuff, lots of choice.A few months ago I discovered Bodycology at a Walmart. I picked up the Peach Mango body wash (which I see now is not shown on their website). I don’t want to leave the shower, because the smell is so good. ;-)Anyway, I think I’ll give your suggestion a shot as well, though it’s in an entirely different price range than Bodycology…Thanks for helping me cross something off of my to-do list. 🙂

      My pleasure

Easy case for our semantic social media matching algorithm, hehe should darn well come up with body washes! Saved for later testing…

Odd, unexpected post; but I do appreciate great product tips. It’s about $22 more than I like to spend on soap though. My awesome product tip that you’ve never heard of: honey incense sticks by L’Occitane. Yes, I know…incense are soooooo college. But these are different. Honestly, they’re amazing. They don’t seem to sell them online, but they have them at the stores (at least they did the last I checked). Here’s the product page from the Brazilian site:http://www.loccitane.com.br

My secret female colleagues tell me similar items appear on Etsy. Takes some searching to find what you want.Lush also maintains eternal popularity- and I think they have an organic line…

    2. fredwilson

      Thanks. I’ll check them out

I like the break from tech/web from time to time. It’s good for the mind.

I may not be a huge fan of bodywash or scented soaps (I prefer unscented so that when I wear perfume it doesn’t clash)-But I got to say- I keep the Gotham Gal in my feed. I admire her style, taste, and modern sense of ethic (including Jewish Ethic). If I could turn into something similar to her one day- I would be very happy with myself. And she has awesome recipes…And I would love to see her secret notes that every woman has about maintaining her life- like how she found and tracked down the bodywash in the first place….Though I have to ask (as a total aside)-what is with men liking highly scented bodhywash?

    1. fredwilson

I’ll make sure she sees this comment shanaI don’t know why I like highly scented body wash. But I do

    Raw. Love it. Thanks Fred.

OK, I’ll bite. Why now? Did something occur in the body wash arena that made you finally get around to posting this?I am pro body wash, by the way, and don’t mind the non-paid endorsement, but I am always curious about how things come into peoples consciousness.

I think this blog could use some ‘commercials’ but they should be for products I really love. Look for more in the future

    1) BigE and I shy away from paying 32 bucks for soap, but she will buy it as a luxury once in while. I sent the post to her and we’re going to try it for the summer. I’ll let you know.2) What I liked most about this post is it just gave 1000’s of bloggers a license not to take themselves and their blogs so seriously and permission to let loose. You made a statement to your readers that you can be a great blogger and not be 100% on topic all the time. This is a good thing. Blogs are as much personal as they are informational.Well done Fred.

Thanks. Btw – I had no idea how much this stuff costs when I wrote the post. The gotham gal does the shopping in our family. I just know that I love this product

Best post ever! Will pass the tip onto my metrosexual husband. My experience in the personal care sector shows tremendous untapped conversations among men on their looks. Ply ’em with a few beers, ask a question, and they can’t stop talking.Men are the fastest growing segment in the personal care/vanity (a $60b+ industry). P&G and the other ‘big boys’ in personal care know it and are investing heavily. Anyone here noticed Gillette’s new products and campaigning around men’s hair removal? Hysterical.See: “Manscaping Goes Mainstream”: http://lookingood.com/2009/…. (…And in full disclosure this IS a plug — one of a number of projects i’ve been involved in recently)

this is the kind of affinity marketing people (like you) might one day want to allow in their email sig files. siginity will endeavor to make that possible and easy. a few details are at http://sonicgleek.com

Elisa saw the recommendation on Gotham Gal’s blog last year and decided to give it a try. Conclusion: it is great. Pricey but worth it.

As a student of “raving fans,” I wonder…what motivated you to share this particular product experience with your readers? I’m not saying it’s not valuable, but it’s clearly outside of your genre.Plus, as a marketer with a client in the organic, paraben-free cosmetics/hygiene world, someone like you certainly doesn’t fall into the typical realm of “influencer” for this vertical. (I’m skeptical of the influencers and focus more on friend->friend WOM, but that’s another story).Either way, there was SOMETHING about this product experience that made you say “I want to share this with my network, regardless of how connected it is to my normal topic” and that something was different than the thousands of other products that you use daily/weekly, etc.Just interesting to think about.

    1. fredwilson

I’m going to do this more often. Maybe as often as once a week. And the link to the ‘in the raw’ store got something like 200 clicks so far. That’s not bad!

      1. jer979

I still want to understand the underlying motivation… 😉

        1. fredwilson

I was using it and thought ‘this is great stuff, I should tell the world (or at least my world)”

  17. $436769

too rich for my blood at $24 for 8oz to start 🙁

    1. fredwilson

An 8oz will last a month or more. Probably two months for just one person

Fred (and the other guys looking for a better shower/shaving product) Check out this product from a young Bay Area company: http://www.dailygrommet.com… LMK if you want a sample…the founder gave me some to give to journalists etc. You are kinda acting like one with this post.
