How To Entertain Yourself On A 10 Hour Flight
First of all I slept for at least five hours of the flight to Athens yesterday (or was it Friday?).
But for the rest of the ride I listened to a bunch of Jens Lekman tracks that a reader named Matthew delivered to me last week via YouSendIt.
Here are two highlights:
I Saw Her In An Anti War Demonstration - Jens Lekman
The Opposite of Hallelujah - Jens Lekman
When I first heard Jens, I immediately thought of The Magnetic Fields, but after 5 hours of listening on the flight to Greece, I think he's more like Jonathan Richman. Which of course is very cool with me!

Jens is a wonderful artist. I really like his song "Someone to Share My Life With". If you like Jens, you might also like Don Lennon. They have a similar vocal sound and also share a quirky sensibility. Try out Don's first album, Maniac. Simple, funny, and very beautiful. It's hard to beat his classic, "Party All The Time". Enjoy Greece.

West to east red eyes are easy.
Noise cancelling headphones.
Sleep.
iPod.
My brother got married in Poland a few weeks back. My flight was Boston-Munich-Wroclaw. I was asleep before the plane started it's take off roll. I woke up an hour outside of Munich. If I go to sleep when it's dark and wake up when it's light my body thinks it's rested.
I find east to west much more difficult, it's just a really loooong day.
Have a great trip.

Sounds like a fun trip. I've never been to Athens...have been to Rome (it is beautiful!)
Interestingly, I also just started a series of posts last week about my trip to NYC. I'm calling it Musings of a Texas Gal in NYC. :-)
My husband has suggested I change it to Musings of an Austinite because he doesn't think of me as a Texas Gal despite the fact I've lived in Texas for 27 years.

I'll second the noise cancelling headphones. Saved me many times on 12 hr flights from Phoenix to London.
I also find earplugs (the squishy foam ones) an absolute godsend on a long flight. You don't realize how tiring the background noise is on a longer flight until you try 'em.
