Neighbor Radio

I've never found a better use of social networking than last.fm's neighbor radio. Here's how it works.

You join last.fm, download software that reports up to the last.fm servers every song you listen to. last.fm takes that information and finds out who your musical neighbors are.

And with that information they create a radio station just for you that is like having your musical neighbors DJing for you. When I don't know what to listen to, I listen to neighbor radio. Here's my neighbor radio, maybe you'll like it. If you want your own, join last.fm.

Last.fm is good stuff. I'm listening to your station now. "Walk On" by Neil Young is the current track.

Last.fm is part of a bigger trend that will profoundly impact the online and offline world. Dynamic personalization will become the new standard for all marketed products and services. What if Verizon FiOS dynamically regrouped television channels and clustered the ones I watched. What if a television channel was dynamically created just for me. What if my Canon Digital Camera dynamically personalized the available features to those that I actually use..no more hunting the the redeye reduction button. Every marketer is looking to build distinction into their products and services. Last.fm, Del.icio.us toolbars, Google personal history impacting SEO results, all point to a new set of consumer expectations and opportunity for disruption in static product categories.

I completely agree, last.fm is awesome for finding new artists and for giving you a radio channel that has a really high number of somgs I like.
