Cool Video
I got this one from yesterday's VSL. To quote from them:
we love the music video for their latest single, “Open Your Eyes.”
It’s actually one half of the cult 1976 short film C’était un rendez-vous, in which the viewer’s P.O.V. is that of a driver racing through Paris at dawn, recklessly running red lights and generally cruising through the streets (sometimes the wrong way down one-ways) without ever once stopping — except at the very end. Legend has it that director Claude Lelouch (A Man and a Woman), who licensed the film to Snow Patrol, shot it in one take without getting a permit, and was arrested after its first screening.
Set to Snow Patrol’s pensive, anthemic music, it’s exhilarating, eerie, dreamlike.

Its a shame YouTube doesn't allow (afaik) wide screen videos. The full screen version is pretty impressive. Now, I know for a fact that I have wildly different tastes in music to you. But I also know that I am not a rev head and despite this fact I prefer the film with its original soundtrack - a car burning through the streets of Paris at dawn.
If you want the original - let me know.

Amusing. The original is a highly suspect video of much speculation and idiocy (as are car-things, generally) - but it's cool to see something like snow patrol set to this. Thanks.

Here is the wikipedia article on the video.

There is also a pretty cool mashup that shows the route that is being driven on google maps as the video is playing. You can check that out here:

No Ferrari V12 sounds? That's disgraceful.
The original is way better:

FYI... It was a Ferrari 275 driven (supposedly) by F1/Ferrari driver Jackie Ickx.
The DVD is amazing.

I'm jealous. I've been looking for this video to post on my blog since I first heard the song used in a Pete Tong podcast last June.
Nice catch, and an absolutely great song/video.

seen it before but cool - especially with that soundtrack.
that's just like me earlier, at standstill/10mph (sometimes) in huddersfield's somewhat shabby traffic (in west yorkshire, blighty) ... with the hair's 'bunny boiler' as my soundtrack.

Fred, I subscribed to VSL thanks to you and I have found quite a few good things from them.
Share I must, what do you make of the
10 songs chosen by 10 individuals weekly (via Fresh Arrival). Sounds like a VSL type concept for music. I think most songs are in DRM free mp3 format (not sure about the copyright issues with this).

Reminds me of growing up in Johannesburg in the 80's -- violent crime was so bad that it was more dangerous to obey the rules of the road than not to and the chief of police recommended not stopping at red lights or traffic stops after dark.
So, driving home in the wee hours after a night out was exactly like this -- thanks for the memories.

I originally saw this film as a short in the theatre before the Who's Quadrophenia.
Sitting four rows from the front of the screen without any notice was a visceral thrill. I don't remember the Who's movie but I instantly recalled the short when a friend of mine put it on his DVD player last fall and I saw the opening frames.
It twigs something basic.
