CYHSY - Some Loud Thunder

Cyhsy Andrew had heard that the new Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (CYHSY for short) record Some Loud Thunder isn't as strong as their debut record. Fortunately, I don't read enough mp3 blogs to pick up that kind of chatter. I got an advance copy of the new record (you can too by purchasing it via their website) and I listened to it for the first time this morning.

It's pretty good. I'll have to give it a few more listens to know for sure. I agree with Pitchfork that the single, Love Song #7 is a strange choice. It's my least favorite track on the record.

Here's my favorite track (give this track time, its takes a while to get going).

maybe this new album will grow on me, but when i first heard it (myspace) i was like 'blech'.

of course, i thought the same thing when i heard BSS for the first umpteen times, and only kept listening at a friend's insistence. now i love it.

this Castles song is pretty good. i _love_ the whirring-type backing - is that just a keyboard? i got mad respect for whoever is writing their keyboard stuff. i had no idea who they were and then i heard 'Young Blood (mp3)' and freaked.

i was a bit disappointed upon hearing this new album for the first time b/c i've been listening to the live version of 'Satan Said Dance' - recorded in France somewhere, maybe. Sounded exactly like I heard it here in SF - insane. Just evil and fun.

and it's pretty bizarre, but i'm pretty convinced that (lead singer) Alec Ounsworth really does _not_ care at all - just like he says - whether i or anyone else likes his band's music. you think i'd be a bit indignant at least - but he's actually believable, and that keeps throwing me for a loop. weird.

I saw CYHSY last night and they weren't as good as their new years eve show, but I think its because they were pressed for time.

if anyone is interested they are performing tonight at the mercury lounge at around 12:30am.

Greetings - I stumbled on your site a couple of days ago and am loving the business-related sanity + indie-rock insanity. Great stuff.

CYHSY, and any other band where the vocalist truly uses his voice as an instrument, take a while to sink in. They need to be chewed thoroughly and given time to allow for digsetion. Now that this has happened with I must say that I think it's as good as their debut. I particularly like Underwater.
