Of Montreal

It happens between five and ten times a year. I get obsessed about a new band I discover. Right now, it's Of Montreal, the cool psychedelic pop band from Athens Georgia. How have I never heard them before?

Anyway I got an advance copy of their new record, Hissing Fauna, and it is simply the best new thing I've heard in a long time (maybe since the Arctic Monkeys?). I realize Of Montreal is not new to many of you, but they are to me.

I posted one song already and I feel compelled to post another. The songs are very different from each other. None sound anything like the ones before them. Which is why the record is so cool.

This one is called She's A Rejector. How about that riff that kicks off the song and stays around for the whole thing?

Sorry, full address not in the previous post

Check out their song "Oslo in the Summertime"

You will love it.

Fred, Have you listened to the 'Islands'? They use to be 'The Unicorns'. http://www.islandsareforever.com/

Great stuff, similar to Of Montreal. I'm also currently addicted to 'Anathallo' -- it's this like orchestral indie rock band.. AMAZING stuff -- http://www.myspace.com/anathallo

By the way Fred, since the year is closing in... my top 2 CDs of 2006 .... The Silent Years -- http://www.myspace.com/thesilentyears and ... Margot and the Nuclear So and So's -- http://www.myspace.com/margotandthenuclearsoandsos .... If Pitchfork had any clue, they'd have covered either of those CDs. The Margot CD should have been this year's "funeral" by arcade fire.. it's THAT good. 8-piece band.. 20-somethings from Indy. The Silent Years are 20-somethings from Detroit. Both bands tour incessantly [spelling?].

I'm just now getting over my Of Montreal obsession -- I've been listening to them everyday for the past three months or so. Dig in deep, Fred. It's good stuff...
