Eating Our Way Through Rome
I continue to be blown away by the food experiences we are getting outside of the traditional restaurant. Today was a typical day.
We started with a "stand up" breakfast of cappucino, expresso, and pastries which takes all of five minutes and blows away anything in New York. If I could eat breakfast this way every day on the way to work, I'd be a caffiene addict for sure. I may be anyway by the time we get back on New Year's day.
We stopped at a mozzerella bar called Obika for lunch. This place is to mozzerella what Nobu is to sushi. We tried mozzerella five different ways, one for each of us. Each one was better than the next. Someone should bring this concept to NYC. I am sure it would work there.
And then we made sure to get our daily fix of San Crispino in the middle of the afternoon. Josh and I went there yesterday and the whole family went there today. Best gelato I've had in Italy yet. Josh had honey yesterday and zabaione today. I had pistacchio yesterday and cinnamon and ginger (one flavor not two) today. Jessica had banana and I think that may be the best flavor of them all.
Good thing we walked from our hotel to Galleria Borghese and back, then all over the place this afternoon. Gotta work off all these calories somehow.

Don't be too shocked if you go through caffeine withdrawal when you get back. I had a few days of headaches after I got back and had to adjust back to the 'weak' stuff. Well worth it though.

Try Della Palma for gelato... it's truly amazing (and the cellophane wrapped almonds, shaped like flowers make a great present when you return).
Della Palma is right near the Pantheon at 20/23 Via della Maddalena (06/68.80.67.52)

Nuts, we kept walking by Obika thinking "mozzarella bar?" Oh well next time...
Don't miss Casa Bleve totally hidden on via Teatro Valle a couple of blocks from the Pantheon for amazing buffet-style lunch.
Our favorite gelato is on a piazza one block N of the Pantheon, on via della Rosetta.

Thanks for the Obika link; nice to know they have branches in Milan and London (in Selfridges) too.

Obika is a great place. It's located right in front of my building in Milan and I got to know the entrepreneur who runs it. They're planning an opening in NYC but they're having some issues on the way to import Mozzarella there (both for food freshness and import laws).
Rome has great restaurants, are you still there?

Fred,
Your blog is a breath of fresh air. I just read about you for the first time in Business 2.o. I, myself, have maintained a blog for years posting about so many different things. These marketers will always say to me "Jeff, your sites has no focus, no niche" My Niche is Life.
Anyways, you were commenting about how great the food is in Rome. The food is always better someplace else it seems. I used to live in South Florida and had a Starbucks across the stress from me with a Dunkin Donuts right behind them.
I now live in Brunswick Georgia which has no Starbucks and no Dunkin Donuts. Where can I get a good cup of coffee.
Used to live in Arkansas and once made a trip to Brooklyn. when I got back to Arkansas I had withrawal sysmptons for at least a week because the food in Brooklyn had so much more flavor. Especially when compared to Arkansas.
I hope you have a great New Year, 2007

This reminds me so much of my trip to Rome. San Crispino is aweeeesome and Rome is really like a walking museum. I remember walking out of the subway and being confronted by the Colleseum. Mindblowing.
