Wolfgang's Vault
Wolfgang's Vault (Bill Graham's live concert archive) has been around for awhile in various forms, but now it's online in all of its glory.
I've spent this morning listening to Led Zepplin at Fillmore West from April 27, 1969. Here's the playlist:
There are plenty people who say that technology has taken the soul out of music. Maybe that's true in certain ways. Album covers, liner notes, I miss them too.But being able to listen to Led Zepplin from 37 years ago is a damn good thing. All in all, I'd argue (and have argued) that we are way better off now.

This guy is a spank!!

You made my week! This is so awesome.

Yowwww! There is some awesome stuff on here. Clearly this will not be a productive day.
I think I'll do Dave Edmunds and Elvis Costello today and save Neil Young and the Rolling Thunder Revue for tomorrow.

Technology has made consuming music frictionless, and while that has come at the expense of (what some might call) soul, in my opinion it is worth it.
You can now find and play things instantly, your ears can follow where your mind wanders. If one song makes you think of another, you can hear it instantly. You can hear something and want to tell your friends (as in this posting). You now make associations you might never have previously made if the friction of physical media were constantly intruding.

I'm listening to the Floyd from 1970. I'd like to get this on a CD, It's neat that it's available and all, but the encoding hurts my ears - how can you people listen to this crap every day?

Amazing find Fred! Thanks!
With all of these killer music apps, I really wish their was a way to aggregate all my music attention into one place so I could store it, view it, share it, and plug it into other web services like this: http://www.allcrazystyle.com/

I'm glad I'm not an LP in your fund since you never seem to actually do any work

Hey Fred. I picked up on your comment re: the absence of album covers and liner notes in digital music, as it speaks directly to a project I'm working on. Take a look at http://www.sleevenotez.com. Would love to know what you think.

Wolfgang's Vault is a great find. I'm torn, however, with the legal aspects of listening to and possibly downloading a copy of a concert for personal (not commercial use).
Any thoughts on this?
