Great Season Guys
Unlike my friends who are Yankee fans, I don't expect a World Series victory every year. I would have loved to see the Mets take it all this year, but it didn't happen.
Carlos Beltran up with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth with two outs was all you could ask for. The kid closer from St. Louis threw him three great pitches, including an amazing curve to end it. That was a fun game to watch and it was a fun season to be a Met fan. You gotta take what you can get in life and I love these 2006 Mets.
I am looking forward to the 2007 Mets. They've got some great young talent on this team.
And how about that play by Endy Chavez?
These photos came from this slide show at the New York Times. It's a good photo summary of the game.

Great season guys.
As for the Yankees, it's starting to look like the 21st century just isn't their century. Or maybe the 3 millenia just isn't thie millenia...
It's kind of sad because Yankee's fans are so sweet, sincere and dedicated.
Plus, you've really got admire Steinbrenner's Alger-esque way of dealing with problems by throwing money at them.

It was a very fun season.
It did hurt watching 2 separate innings end on called third strikes with the bases loaded but you're right - that was a hell of a curve.
Maybe next year. :-)

I wish they had came out on top so that that ridiculous catch would go down in history as the game-saving/changing play it deserved to be.

I can't believe he didn't swing. *Smacks head* Jerry commented on my blog.. Said a lesser man would have quoted my "chumps" comment on the Yanks... I'm happy Jerry is not a lesser man.

Fred,
If the Cards can actually beat the Mets, then I don't see why Claire can't beat Talent. Perhaps long odds - but not that long.
Go St. Louis!
Go Claire!!!

Sorry, I don't buy into the "amazing pitch" angle. The last time a post-season game ended with a called third strike was probably 40 years ago - Dale Mitchell in Don Larsen's perfect game. And that was a two-bit pinch hitter, looking at a fastball that by most accounts probably wasn't a strike. A called third strike on a curve ball? And right over the middle? In Game 7? By your best hitter? With the bases loaded? Ugh.

With 2 strikes you gotta swing. What kind of mental chihuahua just looks at something in that situation? Choke!
More importantly I love the fact both NY teams are out. Yes! Let's hope that next year they spend even more money and still end up not making it to the dance. I can't wait for Mike Lupica to mention the Mets or Yankees 500 times on the Sunday morning ESPN show...should be entertaining.
Go Tigers!!!
