Chili Peppers at Continental Arena

I took a bunch of kids to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers last night at the Continental Arena. Three of The Four Fellas were there as well as Emily and a friend of hers.

It was the first time I've seen the Chili Peppers do a whole set live and I was impressed. Flea plays the bass like nobody I've ever seen. It's like a weapon in his hands.

But John Frusciante was the real eye opener for me. He is a throwback to the guitar gods of the 70s and 80s. The recent Stadium Arcadium record has a song on it called Turn It Again (second to last song on the record, should have been the ending song) in which John Frusciante delivers the most amazing guitar solo on a studio record in years. He is something to behold.

And behold him we did (short 30 second clip).

I'm glad I've found someone else in the world who thinks Turn It Again should have replaced the very average song about Flea's dog at the end of the album. It's so finale-like!
I was so hoping they played it when I saw them in the summer..
And yes, John is amazing.

I was at the show as well and made a clip of 'By the way' (haven't uploaded it yet). While filming, I was thinking about you and how you always put up concert clips.

It made me realize that someday soon, a band is going to encourages their fans to video the show and then does a concert-long mash-up of all the clips!

PS- John Frusciante is the bomb!

Glad to hear Frusciante living up to his potential. I toured with him 1997 on the Nuttstalk tour when he was doing some solo stuff, and he crashed at my house for a minute in Denver. Glad to see / hear him on the up. Chuck.

John Frusciante is the only true guitar hero around these days.

I'd say Jack White would qualify as a true guitar hero, no?

That being said, I'm going to Albany on Saturday to see the RHCP. Very psyched.

Jack White is the anti-guitar hero.

I was thinking about the first sentence in this post. Back in '87 or so it would have been child endangerment to bring kids to a Red Hots gig.

How we've all grown.

No doubt it was an awesome concert. I've never seen them play before either. What a show.

holy crap thats awesome. chili peppers are the one band ive always to see and never had the chance (and david lee roth van halen but thats another story). right on fred, bet those kids were stocked.

Welcome to the John Frusciante club!
If you haven't checked out his solo records, I recommend you get on that -- he put out 8 in the past year or so. go to johnfrusciante.com. under demos is a free Internet album that John gave to his fans a few years ago. Great stuff. You'll also find links to his other CDs. His solo work is divine, much different than RHCP.
