MP3 of the Week/Song of The Day

  After a hard nights work....

It's labor day. A day to celebrate the people who do the hard labor in this country.

I know that my readers aren't generally of that ilk. But let's not forget about the working men and women who earn their living with sweat and mind numbing drudgery. Though the US has lost a lot of these jobs overseas, particularly in the manufacturing sector, take a look when you walk out the door and you'll see that there are still many people earning a pay check the hard way.

And so to celebrate these people, here is a song from Bob Dylan's new record, Modern Times, called Workingman's Blues #2.

Meet me at the bottom, don't lag behind
Bring me my boots and shoes
You can hang back or fight your best on the frontline
Sing a little bit of these workingman's blues

I tried to give you a non-algorithm-derived recommendation for the band "Tokyo Police Club" a while ago, but I still haven't seen it on your Last.fm. I'll try one more time to suggest that you download the track "Nature of the Experiment" off of eMusic. If you don't like it, then I will admit my humanoid recommendation engine has been defeated by the scrobbler.

"Give me a job, give me security.
Make me a respectable man. I'm just a poor soul in the unemployement line, my God I'm barely alive.

My Mother and Father, my Wife and my friends, they seem to laugh in my face. I've got the power, and I've got the will, I'm not a charity case."

I'll take those long nights, impossible odds.
Keeping my eye on the key hole.....

Gonna be a blue collar man"

- "Blue Collar Man" - Styx

When I was out of work during the IT depression, this song kept me motivated.
