Song of the Day - North Country Girl
My friend Fred gave me some mixed CDs (old school but cool anyway) and I was listening to them on the train out to Amagansett yesterday afternoon. This version of North Country Girl (from Nashville Skyline?) came on and it just gave me chills. I had to share it with all of you. Something about Johnny Cash's voice just does that to me.

And while I am on the subject of this amazing song, here's the cover that E did at the Eels Town Hall Show that the Gotham Gal and I went to last summer.

And no blog post on this song would be complete without Pete Townshend's version from the Chinese Eyes record.

The weird thing about the Eels having covered it is that Townshend recorded the song at Eel Pie Studios. Hmmm...

Although I am not otherwise a huge fan, Bruce Hornsby does a beautiful version. It's available in a few different collections I believe. I have it on this album.

The Secret Machines also has a REALLY nice version that is the most recent cover version I've heard. I remember when Nashville Skyline was released and how that song just GRABBED me as a freshman in high school. I Threw It All Away was another favorite of mine on the album.

There's a good cover by As Tall As Lions on a Bob Dylan covers album called Listen to Bob Dylan.
Here's a link to the track on Rhapsody.
