North Country Girl (continued)

Regular readers know that I've been a bit obsessed with this song of late. I've posted on it not once, but twice in the past week.

And so when I came upon this cover (on the HypeMachine of course) by M Ward, Conor Oberst and Jim James of My Morning Jacket (complete with the Johnny/Bob ending that I love so much), I had to post it for all of you.

North Country Girl - M Ward, Conor Oberst and Jim James - Monsters of Folk Tour - 2004

Thanks to Chromewaves for showcasing and hosting this song.

UPDATE: Justin provides a link in the comments to this post from My Old Kentucky Blog with, count 'em, 16 different versions of this song. Thanks Justin! Now if I could just get these into one podcast, that would be fantastic.

Thanks for the link - I keep believing Conor Oberst is a great talent, the next big thing and deserving of all the hype - so I like to hear everything with which he is associated.

Wow. Never knew that version existed.

Don't forget about the Secret Machines version of that tune...

I'm too much of a fan of theirs to note throw this your way. :)

Too slow for my taste, but then I'm a traditionalist. It's tempting in general to graft an emo-edge onto Dylan (I'm surprised more folks don't) but what I like about this tune is the old English folksong of yore vibe, with its traditional chord structure and wistful state of longing.

Anyhow, that's my 2 cents. Seth's Blog brought me over here and I'll think I'll stay for a bit.

i have never noticed you calling out Lampchop - which is a bit surprising, on listening to this mward tune. if you dont know lambchop head over to emusic and knock yourself out. the album How I Gave Up smoking just rocks

Hi all, check the url in my sig for a Tunefeed I just setup - sorry, I only have 4 versions in my own collection... :-)

HEY, can ANYONE help me find where to get the cover of "girl from N. Country Fair" by Conor, M ward & Jim James? I'm dying...been looking for months. No idea where to find it!

Thanks...if you're able to help me.
