How I Participate In The Blog World
George Johnson sent me a link to danah boyd's post on her blogging and blog reading habits.
Reading it was like looking in a mirror. Thanks danah. I feel better already.
Here is the comment I wrote to her post (with a few additional thoughts):
I write for myself, to get my thoughts out of my brain so I can move on to other thoughts. It's a completely selfish activity. If others get value out of it, that's great, but it's not my goal.
I love the comments I get to my posts. They are the other reason I blog.
I don't use a traditional feed reader and never will.
I only read about 10 blogs a day religiously. Each of those blogs is written by a person I know and love.
I read every link that is emailed to me, posted to my delicious for: tag, left in the comments, or IM'd to me.
That's how and why I do it. I am glad I am not alone.

I too read a few blogs religiously. I think that's how most people do it. One thing I've found extremely helpful in catching great posts from blog outside my beaten path are blog carnivals. Are you familiar with those? For me the Carnival of Capitalists or the Carnival of Business or Carnival of Personal Finance are great sources of info. Keep putting down those thoughts...
