Seems right and fine to me so long as the "royalties" are equitably distriubuted to those whose data is mined (first) and then to the data users.
If Google can run auctions for key words, why not also run auctions for sellers of their personal data? I have no interest in giving away my personal data, but I might sell it for say 5 iTunes a month and 3 Netflix n month (or whatever the data is worth in a fair auction). Justice to the ultimate data provider (informed consent, reasonably acquired) is key to getting over privacy issues connected with commercial data mining, yes?
