Taking Web Services To The Office
I just posted a longish thought piece about web services and the enterprise on the Union Square Ventures weblog.
We believe the enterprise is going to quickly become a big user of web services and "web 2.0" technologies and techniques. Read why we think that here.

calendar.google.com ROCKS
compared to that calendar.yahoo.com SUCKS.. infact it sucks big time
Yeah, yeah, yeah Fred doesn't like google because it didnot pay him enough on del.icio.us... hehehe

By "web services" do you mean *web-based applications* - like Basecamp, Google Calendar, Flickr, MSN Live, etc, or do you mean web services like *XML/SOAP/HTTP web services* (ie: Amazon S3 service, Google APIs, etc)? Perhaps you intend both meanings. I think it's important that the technologists and the money are using the same lingo.

Okay, I read the actual post... my bad. Anyway, there is a difference between what developers mean by "web services" and the definition of your "web service"... nothing major, just an observation. I would call what you are talking about a "web application".. you can delete both of these comments..

While I agree that 'Web Services', or web based applications or web 2.0 is the way things are moving, I actually see most larger corporation as late adopters.
Most of the real movement and traction that I have personally seen (I am trying to bootstrap a startup while still consulting for customers at the same time....) is in the small development shops. Most larger companies have this "wait and see" attitude towards 2.0 and web based applications.
I know this attitude will change, it has to. But I see it happening later rather than earlier in those big companies.
Great post though! Keep 'em coming.

Just curious what impact SOX will have on adoption? How will companies balance this free flow of information and still be compliant.
