Ricky Gervais on the technology business
These are the final words from the final show of the BBC version of The Office (I left out the last little bit about Dolly's anatomy):
Life is just a series of peaks and troughs and you don't know whether you are in a trough until you're climbing out or on a peak until you are coming down.
That's it, you never know what's around the corner.
But it's all good.
If you want the rainbow, you have to put up with the rain.
Do you know which philosopher said that? Dolly Parton.
Well said Ricky. That's been my experience in the VC/tech business over the past 20 years. And it is all good.
As for The Office, I watched the entire two seasons plus the special on DVD over the past two weeks. The Office is one of the funniest things I have ever scene on TV and I loved every minute of it. I will miss David, Garreth, Tim, Dawn, and the rest of the gang.

No, no, no. Missing out the last bit is like painting the Mona Lisa without her smile. Or hair. Or something.
Go on - don't be so American. Dolly wouldn't mind.
' Do you know which philosopher said that? Dolly Parton.
And people say she's just a big pair of tits."
Cue - theme tune.

By the special do you mean the two xmas specials? Awesome!
As mentioned before I think you will love Ricky's next project: Extras.

Yeah the Ben Stiller episode is the best...he is superb! Although Samuel L does little but his impact is hilarious and Kate Winslet is beyond belief!
From the Brits I think the Les Dennis one is the best and overall is the darkest most amusing!
Hahaha have to go watch some now!

My DVR picked up a bunch of episodes over the holidays. With some free time I was able to watch most of them and am richer for it.
Like you Fred, when it was over I really felt as though I missed the characters, much more than say the Seinfeld gang. Perhaps it was because I immersed myself in the show over the course of a week or two, but I doubt it. The characters just seemed more real. Like catching a glimpse of a shooting star, I'll always have fond memories of this show.
What Gervais & Co. did with the office - 2 seasons and out if I'm correct - is fitting in the attention challenged age we're living in. It makes waiting for a new season of The Sopranos painful in comparison. There is something elegant about hitting it, hitting it hard, hitting it to perfection, tipping your cap and leaving.
Thanks guys! On to Extras.
