Comment Spam
I know that this blog is getting filled up with comment spam (and track back spam).
I've asked TypePad for some help and they are working on it.
But for the time being, my readers are going to have to live with it because I can't spend all my time deleting this crap.
But I would like to call all the assholes out who are sending this shit my way.
You know who are and you suck.

I just changed my settings to require approval for all new comments.... its getting out of hand and it seems like an easy problem to fix, too.

I've always wondered why Cloudmark or someone similar doesn't come out with a colelctive wisdom product.
Their email "this is spam" voting network is tremendous at keeping out spam and limiting false positives to gray newsletters. Seems like comment spam would be an easy extension of that product (and indeed, since these guys are all part of the same affiliate marketing programs, there is probably significant overlap in the messaging)
I wouldn't hold your breath on Typepad. They are lucky to keep their servers up for commenters to be able to spam!

this may be a bit low-tech, but our feedback form was recently hijacked by spammers, so it looked like our site was sending the crap.
our web guy adjusted the feedback form to make it more robust in terms of submission. this is the first day with it this way and already we've noticed a difference...

Word verification works. It's annoying, but useful.

My web forms were being exploited by spammers, so I simply renamed formmail.pl to something else that these bots wouldn't guess. Now I think I've solved the problem. Good trick for anyone having this problem.
