Wikimania
I've already professed my love of wikis on this blog.
So now I am going to go a bit deeper and start talking about some of the things I love about them.
One of the most useful features on our JotSpot wiki is the ability to forward emails to any page on the wiki.
I am planning a trip next week to the west coast. I am working on setting up a bunch of meetings. I wanted everyone in the office to be able to weigh in with suggestions.
So I created a new page, listed the people I want to see, and started using it to organize my trip. Everyone in the office can easily see the list and add or make changes to the list.
Like most people, I am using email to arrange the meetings.
Now with one easy move, I can get the emails into the wiki, and right to the page I want them to be on.
I know that this feature is available in Notes and probably even Outlook.
But we used Notes for years at Flatiron and I never was able to figure out how to make a page and do something like this in less than five minutes with Notes.
I think Wikis are something everyone who runs a small company or department of a larger company ought to look into.
Do I smell a wiki themed investment in the offing? If so, best of success. I found Jotspot less than intuitive but you've convinced me to go back to it and put it to work.

I love that feature of JotSpot and have been trying to find its equivalent among the free wiki engines but to no avail. Anybody know if there are any open source wiki engines out there that have this feature?

Socialtext was the first to add this feature. To my knowledge, none of the open source wikis presently offer it, but that will change.
What's great about it is it makes introducing the tool to someone as simple as: "Just CC to wiki."

Does Socialtext offer a free account? I don't really care who had the feature first (does anyone really care about that sort of thing?)

It was also suggested to me by a friend who swears by it. I'm an avid blogger with a lot of interests (mobile media, comic books, etc.) and my blog reflects that. So much so that it has become cluttered with the various articles I have on mobile, business, and of course my many webcomics.
The only thing that's stopping me from going WIKI is the monumental task of moving house, that is moving all the stuff I have at my old blog to a WIKI.
