The Pistons are successful b/c Joe Dumars understands that a winning team is built around unselfish, hard working players. Larry was the beneficiary of Joe's work, as evidenced by the fact that he never won a championship prior to Detroit. Zeke (Isiah) is the ultimate individual competitors, but he is no Joe Dumars.

While I agree with Dave E's comment that Joe Dumars built a winning team, Mr. Brown's system fit perfectly with Mr. Dumars' philosophy. In my opinion, Mr. Brown never won a championship before Detroit for two reasons. One, he has become the Jay Alix of basketball. Total turnaround guy. He took the Clippers to the playoffs! Two, he has never stuck around long enough to see the fruits of his labor. They were a perfect fit on the court. I think the Knicks fans should be thrilled. Hopefully Larry and Isiah can improve the Knicks.
