It seems to me that eBay has lost its focus. It is focused on the short-term goal of pleasing Wall St. analysts at the expense of the long-term goal in cultivating its sellers.
I picked up on this story, as well, and blogged about it, here.
eBay is exhibiting behavior all too typical of publicly traded companies: focusing on quarterly results, not long-term strategy.

Let's get a grip. It has become fashionable to bash eBay these days. I am amazed that the WSJ has used examples to make a case. As any debater knows, using examples, you can make ANY case you want. Do the aggregate numbers support the story of seller attrition? That is what is relevant. Conveniently, the WSJ does not talk about that at all.
