The Gotham Gal Goes Global
She's pissed.
At Bush and his cronies.
And this time its about his border crossing policies.
She wonders why we need to have a passport to go back and forth to Mexico and Canada.
She wonders why we don't do what they did in europe.
Create a uber nation and an uber currency, the amero. Why shouldn't we align with Mexico and Canada and get closer to them? (I used the word annex in an earlier version of this and upon reflection don't like that word).
Why do we need to put up walls. When our competitors are taking them down.
Good question Gotham Gal.

"Why shouldn't we annex Mexico and Canada and get closer to them?"
Yikes! This is a rhetorical question, right? I don't know where to start with this one.
Um, why doesn't she ask Canada and Mexico how they feel about that?

Um, annex? We kind of like things as they are up here.
The currency makes sense on the surface, but I don't think we're willing to tie our interest rate and economy so closely for the forseeable future. We debate the idea up here every once in a while, but there seems to be the worry that we'd lose any independence we have left with our economic stategy.
Single North American passport? Sure, sign me up for one.

....Because everyone needs to be the victim of a passport photo at least once in their life.
We need to attack Canada first, get rid of Quebec and Bryan Adams...then they can become the 51st state.
Also what comes to mind is how easy it was for Mohammad Atta to pretty much walk in throught Maine days before 9/11.
Sovereign!

Fred, you just kill me sometimes with these ideas. Thanks for the humor this morning. ;-)

These ideas are noble but are not reality based. All that is required is to have your passport checked, just like they do when entering any other country in the world. We have just apprehended two Syrian terrorist at the California/San Diego border and THANK GOODNESS for that! The real issue for the Gotham gal is to look at what can we do globally to deal with these terrorists, and perhaps help them to adopt another lifestyle. What can be done to help mothers see that life here on earth is not so hopeless that strapping a bomb to their child, their husband (or themselves) and sending them out to another country is not the answer. Those are the real questions and issues, not passport checking at the border.

this is definitely a good move.
i know it's the evil chimpy bush, but seriously look at Mexican and Canadian border security. The Canadian side is very weak, as most of the government and bureaucracy thinks that terrorism is made up and anyways, its not a threat to Canada, just the US, so no big deal (this is not majority Canadian opinion, but it is the majority within the ruling party and senior bureaucrats... a Cabinet member did say "Damn Americans, I hate those bastards"). We have a number of documented terrorists crossing into the US from Canada, as well as a thriving population of terrorists in Canada (the LTTE/Tamil Tigers are not terrorists in Canada thanks to donations to the liberal party from Tamils who support the LTTE).
The situation in Mexico is vastly worse. So unless you secure the Canadian and Mexican borders, the US will have the security that Mexico and Canada do. These policies will not change if you elect Hillary. It's a long term antagonism, irrespective of who the President is or what party is in the majority in Congress.
I know you hate it (and that the Gotham Gal especially hates it) but sometimes Bush is right. In this case, he is vastly behind the times in beefing up security.
