Devils and Dust

Devils_and_dustI am listening to the new Bruce Springsteen record Devils and Dust on Rhapsody this morning.

It's in the Nebraska vein but not as stark and powerful as that amazing record.  My friend Craig, who is a huge Bruce fan, compares it to Bruce's mid 90s record Tom Joad.

I like Bruce when he sings dark folk songs and I like this record.

Of course I like the old E-Street Band stuff from the mid seventies best, but I'm starting to dig the dark folk stuff like Nebraska. Maybe I'll get it. As long as he doesn't attempt another Born In The USA, what a horrid record.

As someone who would buy Bruce belching the alphabet, I am enjoying this album. But I must admit that I am disapointed that the song "All the Way Home" is NOT a cover of the Spinal Tap classic of the same name. I was looking forward to that.

I am a huge Springsteen fan. Not of his politics mind you, but of his music and powerful lyrical ability. I do love Devils and Dust. I think my favorite song on this CD is Silver Palamino, followed by Maria's Bed and Jesus Was An Only Son. I am equally disappointed by Reno. It takes away from the magic of the other tracks.
