Slashdotted
I've been offline all day as I have been trying to fly back to NYC from Denver.
I am still stuck in DIA with crappy wifi that I can't get to work on my laptop.
Hopefully my plane will fly at some point, but its going to be a redeye if it does.
I finally got online in the Presidents Club and checked out my blog to find that I had over 4500 visits today.
That's three times my normal amount and by far the most I've ever had.
So I went to the referring page logs on typepad and found out that my Whither Tivo post was picked up by Slashdot.
I've always known that Slashdot had that kind of power, but to feel it first hand is an experience.
Very impressive.

My friend, you have only been tickled by Slashdot. The link to your post came on an off day and by this point in the evening, the discussion has amassed about half of what the most active discussions will pull in terms of hits. I have been a long time contributor to Slashdot (BWJones), and have personally seen much more traffic than that hit my server. Because of this, I have long wondered if anyone was actually accumulating the statistics on the Slashdot demographics? Certainly in the early days, Slashdot was almost strictly an open source forum, but has taken off as a news site for nerds of all flavors bound together by their passion for technology and computing. The signal to noise ratio is much lower these days on Slashdot discussions, but there are still newsworthy gems to be had. What I would really like to know however is.....what is the future of Slashdot? Certainly there are over 800000 registered users who are passionate and can attract a not inconsiderable amount of attention to linked resources, and the linked resources to Slashdot discussions can give significant leverage to hits on search engines simply because of their drawing power. So, what is the Open Source Technology Group's plan for Slashdot? I would really like to know.

The real question is... what was the AdSense clickthrough rate on your 4500?
