Oh My Goshe
My partner Brad and I went to Sushi Yasuda today with Jason Calcanis who is in NYC for the week.
We sat at the sushi bar in front of Yasuda himself who did a variation on the Omakase for us.
If you love sushi and you've never been to Yasuda, you owe it to yourself to do this.
It's amazing. As was the conversation with Jason. I highly recommend both.

Yasuda-san is a genius. We take out from there and the prices are comparable to your local joint, but the quality is next level. To say nothing of the omakase, of course.
The only other places at that quality level I've experience in NYC are Sushi of Gari (I have not tried the new Gari on the UWS) and Jewel Bako.
Of course everyone raves about Masa but that is a $$$pecial occasion place the inside of which I don't expect to see for quite a while.

place is off the charts. gari's omakase is amazing and seki (his ex sous chef on 1st and 61th?) also does a simliar do. with the exception of karuma i'd argue these are the far and away best sushi restaurants in a city filled with great food. nobu eat your heart out.

A couple of years ago, I had a lucrative consulting gig in NYC and a big expense account. As often as I could, I ate at Sushi Yasuda. The white salmon was the greatest sushi I've ever tasted. I described it to other people as "avocado in piscine form." I'm horribly jealous!
