Dead Zeppelin
Josh is into Led Zeppelin. That's cool.
So we decided to download some of their greatest songs (Rock and Roll, Whole Lotta Love, Black Dog, Heartbreaker, Immigrant Song) from iTunes.
Guess what?
You can't do that. There are no Led Zeppelin songs on iTunes.
So I figured I'd check out music.msn.com. Nope. Not there.
What about Napster? Not there.
How about Rhapsody? Not there either.
I guess Led Zeppelin doesn't believe in online music.
Well I guess I don't believe in paying for Led Zepplin's music either.
There are other places to get Led Zepplin's music online.
Idiots.

If Zep doesn't want their songs on iTunes because they want to protect the perfect arrangement and sequencing of the albums, then why did they release the boxed set so many years ago? Wasn't that basically Jimmy Page's version of a greatest hits collection? And on that, they even omitted "Living Loving Maid" after "Heartbreaker", fer chrissakes! I can't think of a worse crime against their "arrangements" than that, and they did it themselves. So I don't think that argument holds water. I think somehow it all comes down to dollars and cents. None of this matters much to me since I have the whole catalog on CD, and therefore on my iPod, I just think it's interesting how certain artists are poorly represented on iTunes, and how much money they're losing because of it.

Josh and other Led Zep seekers,
The entire Led Zep catalogue (and those hard to find compilations and rare bootlegs and out takes) can be downloaded from Limewire.com for free. There are ocassional problems with viruses however I have not found this to be a problem with a good anti-virus/spam/firewall security system. I download the songs, burn them to CD or sync to MP3, then dump them from my hard drive.
Jimmy, Robert, John-Paul and John Henry absolutely rule!!! What other band that has been dismantled since 1979 still holds the status of consistently being in top 100 lists and "Stairway to Heaven" is still one of thee most requested songs today. By the way, Led Zep was payed millions for Cadillac to use "rock'n'roll" in its commercials. Good business, not a sell out!

Zeppelin were all about Heroin, Jack D and, for Jimmy, Satanism.
The music was spawned from all this. Fuck Itunes, fuck the record industry, fuck record companies. One of the top five bands of all time. Best guitar solo ever on Since I've been Loving You.
Who comes up with songs like Bron yraur stomp anymore? Who makes music anymore? Music has been dead since 1980.
Back when that track was released, the top three albums in the USA were Zeppelin III, Abbey Road and Let it Bleed.
What do we have now? coldplay? haha. its sadd.

Well, for those of you who think it's because Led Zeppelin wants you to have the whole album, not just the most popular songs, you are forgetting one simple fact: Apple's iTunes allows artists to specify songs as being "Album Only." Therefore, Zep could still allow users of this new music purchasing (emphasize the purchasing) platform to buy their music, but on the condition that they indeed download all of the songs together. I'm sure Apple would love to have Zep in their camp, and I would think that anyone really understanding what iTunes is about would see that it is the frontier of future music sales. It's selling out as much as releasing your album for sale in a record store is - in other words, it's not selling out. It's selling. It's being a musician wanting compensation for your artwork, but allowing your music to be available to your fans (and there are plenty of us out here who have Zep's albums on CD already, but for some reason still want something on iTunes - I'm not going to buy albums I don't have from BestBuy/equivalent ever again).

Co'mon now, you're telling me your not willing to pay for led zeppelin songs???? Something sounds a little funny there. I figure if I like artists well enough I'll pay for the cd. Then I can just burn the crap out of it. Plus I'll always have a seperate master. Unless of course you just listen to the greatest hits. Then buy some knock off group; which probley sounds the same to your tone deaf ears, off of itunes. Plus how do you think it got to the "other places" in the first place?? Somebody bought the albumn; funny how that works.

Very old thread but ran across it looking for Led Zepplin stuff. Led Zepplin is the best rock band in the 70's without a doubt. 40 years later and they are still well known as they made music 5 years ago.
