Dead Zeppelin
Josh is into Led Zeppelin. That's cool.
So we decided to download some of their greatest songs (Rock and Roll, Whole Lotta Love, Black Dog, Heartbreaker, Immigrant Song) from iTunes.
Guess what?
You can't do that. There are no Led Zeppelin songs on iTunes.
So I figured I'd check out music.msn.com. Nope. Not there.
What about Napster? Not there.
How about Rhapsody? Not there either.
I guess Led Zeppelin doesn't believe in online music.
Well I guess I don't believe in paying for Led Zepplin's music either.
There are other places to get Led Zepplin's music online.
Idiots.

whenever I tune into last.fm I get plenty of Led Zeppelin, I see that as a reward for being neglected as a customer at the itunes music store...

One of my personal favorite bands is Dread Zeppelin - good "unleaded Led".

now, now. led zeppelin undoubtedly has their reasons, and i mean, hey, do the artists whose paintings hang on your walls always make cheap poster prints of every image they make?
and you can get led zeppelin's music online:

Don't forget to grab the greatest Led Zep under appreciate record they made: "Presence"

Undoubtedly Josh needs some Zepplin in his diet if he's going to continue playing drums. I whole heartedly endorse Zepplin as a part of his training regimen. Jeez, can't you walk the four blocks to Virgin and buy a copy of I, II, IV and Houses Of The Holy? He NEEDS this stuff. It's very important that he check out When The Levee Breaks, The Ocean, Rock And Roll, and the part of Stairway where Bonham kicks in.....John Bonham was only the greatest rock drummmer ever......

A smart e-commerce web designer friend of mine once pithily told me- "Decent web design is just a question of managing the gap between what you want people to do and what they actually end up doing".
Seems Led Zep don't want to manage that gap... they just want you to do what they want you to do... i.e. buy their vinyl/CD.
Heck, they don't even want to acknowledge that (GASP!) the gap might actually exist.
Like you said, Idiots.

Led Zep isn't the only one to keep their heads in the sand. You cannot download any Beatles stuff off iTunes or any of the other "conventional" download sites - not even the solo stuff, except for some of Ringo's albums, and that doesn't really count, does it?

Everyone knows that Led Zeppelin are very political and aware of the implications of being SELL OUTs. They have never done anything to be 'sell outs' (it took a public arse-kissing for them to even give Jack Black rights to use their songs in School of Rock, apparently). They make sure 'selling out' never happens in their life time. At the very beginning, it was possible to buy Led Zeppelin on iTunes -- now you can't. Hmm. Sure, it is peculiar, but they must have been pushed around by their record label too much and said, like with most things FINANCIAL: "Fuck it." For that, I applaud them. They've got enough money and, unlike Metallica, they don't need or want any more.
Go buy their fucking CDs. Stop being a lazy, tech-loving bastard and get into their albums. Every song is great, for different reasons.
P.S. One reason that I can think of that Led Zeppelin would be against iTunes and online music is that you can't control the arrangement of songs people buy. Their albums are very carefully arranged. They very well might object to just buying their 'famous' songs over some of their lesser known but more loved ones, like Battle of Evermore. Give that some thought when next you buy a 99 cent song, eh?

as good as zep and beatles are, those stars are fading fast because theyre NOT on iTunes. It a burn on them, not iTunes. Theres a ton of great music available on line and who hasnt heard zep and beatles and trillion times already.
They lose, not iTunes

From what I hear, it's not that Led Zeppelin, themselves won't let Itunes, Napster, ect. sell their song. It's that they're bound by contract, and the record company will not allow their music to be sold online.

zeppelin not sell outs????!
hello : CADILLAC
Posted by: mel | June 17, 2005 at 02:39 AM
After 30 years being the cadillac of rock the representation is appropriate.

"They have never done anything to be 'sell outs'" (ur all stupid)
Hehehe. Except for letting Cadillac use "Rock and Roll" in their commercials right? I mean, that's not selling out? Right stupid?

"as good as zep and beatles are, those stars are fading fast because theyre NOT on iTunes."
Yeah...they're "Fading Fast"....LMAO

Zeppelin and the Beatles are both missing out by not being available on iTunes - and I AM an OLD person, okay. As for being sell-outs, no matter how cool a band wants to be, if you want to make a living at it, as both of these bands have done, you'd better make your music available to the dumb masses (us) with the dinero.
Posted by: sparky | October 08, 2005 at 10:25 PM
HEY! Some of you clueless whiney blokes are just dumb and it shows.
I am still laughing at the few who think I need to be on iTunes. Let me tell you I don't! - Lookie here mate I'd rather be selling my albums at full tilt retail than just a few songs at .99 cents. Even though I am dead, I still don't need to be putting Ca$h in the pocket of that rump wangler, pudding licker Steve-baby-Jobs. What Zep needs is to sell albums.
Now all you downloading, freeloading, loafers get on out there and buy our albums.
Also, Bob has a new album and a tour underway so go out an support him.
JB out.
Hey its hot here can someone send me some ice water?
Posted by: John Bonham | October 09, 2005 at 10:36 AM
I won't go out and buy the CDs either. I only want the songs that I want, no filler. Can't get that in a CD. You can adapt or be left behind.

Zoso is so-so.
Posted by: 20-sesquial terra | November 04, 2005 at 06:39 PM
Led Zep can do whatever they want with THEIR music
Posted by: cj | November 11, 2005 at 10:50 AM
Zoso is the bomb, he can play a six string like no other or a twelve string for that matter.
So, do not get bustle in your hedgerow over what an iTune can or cannot do. Apple is too light in the loafers for Zeppelin.

If you're a true Led Zeppelin fan, if you know the band and their history, then you should know why they aren't on iTunes. The whole ethos of Led Zeppelin was that the music was the most important thing, and the band went to great lengths to ensure that it was presented as well as it possibly could be. That means they did things like arranging the songs in certain ways on the albums, using the highest quality equipment in the studio and on the stage. They never wanted to release any singles because they didn't want one song overshadowing others, they never did tv appearences because the music was more important than them. In fact, the reason that it took so long for them to make any live music available was because there wasn't any recording equipment that would have done justice to the sound. The Song Remains The Same took so long to come out was because they weren't happy with the sound quality, and took their time over it.
If you like Led Zeppelin, you should go and buy the albums, and hear the music as it was intended to be heard. Just downloading the most popular songs (which is exactly what happens on iTunes) is pathetic, and you'd just be missing out on all the great music in their catalogue. The albums are cheap to buy anyway, plus you get the cd and artwork, so stop being such tightasses. If you still don't know why Led Zeppelin aren't on iTunes, then you're an idiot, and don't deserve to hear them.

I'm laughing at the comment about not buying CDs because you don't want any filler. Led Zep come from a time when really good bands made records with no filler. Every track a gem. There's no such thing as filler on a Zep album. Can't say the same for the legion of imitators that followed . . .

This dude is such a tool. Jimmy Page owns all rights to all Zeppelin songs, he doesnt care that you download his music illegally, people have walked up to him and given him pirated stuff. He accepts it and find it interesting the things that have come up. You really thing a couple dollars will matter in Page's vast fortune, you never call Jimmy Page an idiot. He is an innivator in economics as well as music.
