I like this choice. The Democrats now have the two most popular primary candidates on the ticket together.

I like the fact that Kerry did not pick someone like Bob Graham or Tom Vilsack who could deliver an important state. I also like the fact that he didn't pick someone like Dick Gephardt who he had a better relationship with.

Edwards is likely to help Kerry more than any of those other guys and he will warm up the ticket and help reach out to voters in swing states like Ohio where the race will be won or lost.

It is unfortunate that Kerry wasn't able to convince John McCain to run with him. Apparently the Bush camp will use that against Kerry. That's too bad because Kerry's attempt to create a non-partisan ticket was a great idea than many americans would have embraced with open arms.

Maybe the most interesting thing about this news today is that the NY Post somehow got it wrong. I heard the news via email this morning before leaving for work. On my way to work, I passed a newstand and saw this morning's edition of the Post with a picture of Dick Gephardt and the headlines "Kerry's Choice". I bought a copy to prove to my kids that you can't always believe what you read in the newspaper. That's got to be embarassing for Murdoch and crew today.

Regarding Cheney burying Edwards: Yeah, I'm sure that's what a lot of CEOs said when Edwards targeted their companies with lawsuits.

It will be interesting, the star populist lawyer against the consummate insider hands-on operator.

The press got something wrong. Is anyone surprised? I'm not. Haters beware, D. Cheney is much smarter than most give him credit for. He will certainly crush Edwards with his usual calm demeanor (sans the Leahey exchange) if/when they debate. He won’t break a sweat. You don’t serve as many administrations as D.C. has without being of above average intelligence. This is exactly why W hired him. He makes up for his significant lack there of. Biggest challenge the dem ticket will have is convincing the older generation that they will somehow be as strong on Nat’l defense as the Rep’s regardless of how anyone feels about the war. While the war will certainly have a front seat in this election, convincing the older generation that Kerry was taking intelligent positions back during his post Vietnam hayday (he acted like an ass really), and that the youngster from the South has enough moxy and experience to call a spade a spade to the likes of the Saudi Royals, N. Korean’s, etc... This is what folks like my parents (who represent the highest demo of registered voters) focus on. They must be convinced. This is what I believe neutralizes the whole playing field in Nov. Unless something catastrophic occurs between now and then, it will be another squeaker.
