The Burden of Being the Boss

That scene last night when Tony was talking to his "consigliere" Silvio reminded me so much of Jerry's Henry V quote from his "On Being The CEO" post.

It's tough being the boss whether you are the king, the mob boss, or just an every day CEO.

I got chills when I watched that... I felt for Tony. He was in a no-win situation and had to pick the best of the worst choices. All his people were buckling under the pressure and loosing faith in him.

Then he makes the call to whack his cousin and it doesn't solve the problem, in fact it makes it worse. The CEO's isolation got even deeper after that--nothing worse then making the wrong call after stalling for a long time. At least if you acted decisively and made a mistake you still have the respect for being decisive. Now people have lost faith in you for a) not making the call at the right time and b) making the wrong after the fact.

You got it, Fred. See you DO understand Shakespeare. If he were alive today, he'd be writing dramas for HBO.
(Tho' he'd probably be writing for the series OZ.)
