Blogging
Great panel yesterday on blogging and social networking courtesy of Tony Perkins' Always On Network.
I met a bunch of people i hadn't met before and we got to discuss some great issues that are really central to the blogging and social networking world.
Since i don't have a lot of time today, i'll just point to Jeff Jarvis again who captured most of the discussion on his blog yesterday.

Jarvis: "VC Burnham and academic Shirky both said that this meeting was trying to artificially push together the concepts of weblogs and social software. They're related but still separate. I agree."
I also agree.
I'm just thinking there's a bunch of former dotcom sharks trying to get a piece of the action. Fair enough.
Moveable Type and Blogger already exists. So does the blogosphere really need a major influx of speculative capital? Why? Besides giving Kalacanis ( www.weblogsinc.com )something to talk about, what's the big idea I'm missing?

Well, you may be right about the "dot.com sharks" of which i'd surely be on the list.
but i do think there is a lot more to do with blogging.
for short:
- stuff like kinja - making it easy to find, read, and follow blogs without having to get an RSS reader.
- a way for bloggers to get compensated. maybe an ad network like Doubleclick or something like that

Thanks. Frankly, I hope there is a lot of action for the "sharks". It means things get more interesting for everyone.
Yeah, I've seen Jarvis' list- it's a darn good one.
I'm interested in blogvertising... watching what happens with Blogads.com very closely.

Never Underestimate The Importance Of Words on The Web
One bright, sunny day, the Bad Internet Fairy closed down every company and organization site on the web.
No more shopping. No more sites selling endless products and services. No more university, non-profit, or political sites.
All closed.
So all the programmers, designers, and usability engineers went home, shaking their heads.
Too bad! No more web.

Maybe a Doubleclick? Fat chance. Banners and buttons were designed for old-media's new portals. Blog advertising should be as easy, effective and affordable as blogging. We've got a thriving ad network for bloggers called BLOGADS. We've been tinkering for 18 months and are closer everday to the sweetspot of tech, content, design and logic that balances the interests of bloggers and advertisers.
